The provincial government introduced new legislation this week that will provide additional support to victims and survivors of human trafficking.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Gord Wyant says this will provide a streamlined process for victims to seek a protection order against their traffickers.
“What we wanted to do is to be able to provide some more tools, by way of provincial legislation, to help in the fight against human trafficking,” said Wyant.
The legislation will prohibit traffickers from contacting them in any way, directly or indirectly.
The government says significant penalties will deter violations of a protection order, including fines, drivers license suspensions and jail terms.
