Active COVID-19 case count reaches record high

An unpleasant record has been set in Saskatchewan after 552 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Sunday on the provincial dashboard.

While that is a single-day record for new cases, the active case count has also eclipsed the previous record set in December. There are now 4,864 active cases, which is 101 more than the previous record from Dec. 7, 2020 of 4,763.

The new cases come from Saskatoon (124), the north west (77), Regina (64), the north central (38), the south east (36), the south central (36), the central east (36), the south west (33), the far north west (21), the far north east (19), the central west (17), and the north east (16).

Three more people have died after testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 670.

Another 436 people have recovered from COVID-19.

There are 281 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 63 in ICU.

Another 4,053 tests were processed in Saskatchewan Saturday.

When it comes to COVID vaccines, another 3,893 new doses were administered, including 2,153 first doses.
