Braydon Coburn is going from the Stanley Cup champs to one of the worst teams in the NHL.
On Sunday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced they have sent the 35-year-old defenceman from Shaunavon along with forward Cedric Paquette and a second-round selection in the 2022 NHL Draft to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Marian Gaborik and goaltender Anders Nilsson.
Coburn had four points (one goal, three assists) and 16 penalty minutes over 40 games with the Lightning last season. He was held scoreless while skating in three of the team’s post-season contests.
This will be Coburn’s 4th NHL team. He was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2003 NHL Draft and has also spent time with the Flyers. In 964 career NHL games, he has posted 232 points (49 goals, 183 assists) and 706 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 137 NHL post-season games registering 32 points (three goals, 29 assists) and 113 penalty minutes.
