COVID numbers rise in Saskatchewan

COVID numbers were on the rise over Christmas in Saskatchewan, as the Omicron variant takes hold in the province.

There were almost 12-hundred new cases of COVID recorded in Saskatchewan from December 22 through the 27th, according to Tuesday’s update from the provincial government.

Four COVID-related deaths were reported during the same time period. Regina led the way with 58 new cases today. Saskatoon was next with 34.

Over 820 of the new cases since December 22nd are the new Omicron variant, although none of those patients have been hospitalized.

There are currently 80 people in the hospital in Saskatchewan with COVID-19, including 16 in I-C-U.

The provincial government is urging everyone to make getting vaccinated a New Year’s resolution.

As of Tuesday, almost 280 thousand Saskatchewan residents have received a third booster dose. 76 per cent of residents aged five and up have received two doses.
