Red Sox announce multiple partnerships to form new junior baseball academy

The Regina Red Sox have announced partnerships with multiple entities for a new baseball academy.

The WCBL franchise is partnering with 2SK Performance, On-Deck Baseball/Softball and Find a Way Training and Athletics to launch what will formally be known as the Regina Red Sox Baseball Academy.

The new academy located in Regina, will provide high end year-round training, with off-season games and tournaments to 150 athletes.

It will also see the formation if elite U13, U15, U17 and U19 teams that will travel across western Canada and the U.S..

Chis Kayter, formally of On-Deck Baseball will serve as the academy’s president.

Kayter was recently the president of North Regina Little League and is known as a successful business person in the Queen City.

Providing year round training including hitting, catching and pitching instruction is important for baseball players in Regina according to Kayter. “Having a group of kids together, that trains every day together, build that camaraderie, that friendship is big. Having all those three groups together for the academy, for the Red Sox, having all the kids wear the Red Sox gear day in and day out is going to be big.”

The ability to access indoor training facilities throughout the entire year is very important for the baseball community adds Kayter. “There’s a lot of good quality baseball players in Regina and in our community and they seem like they have to go everywhere else, but with this facility and partnering with the Red Sox, they’ll be able to stay at home, we want all the young kids to want to be Red Sox at the end of the day.”

The first instructors introduced include Regina’s Dustin Molleken and Cole Warken. Molleken is a former major league pitcher having spent time in the Cleveland , Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh minor systems before making his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2016. Werken is a veteran of the Moose Jaw Millers from 2017-19 and spent time in the 2021 season with The Sioux City Explorers, Milwaukee Milkmen, Fargo-Moorehead RedHawks.

Building a solid relationship with minor baseball is something important for the Regina Red Sox says President Gary Brotzel. “This ties in really nice, the kids here that will be working out of the academy all be wearing the Red Sox gear, opportunities to get discount tickets to our games, we just want to get all those kids that enjoy baseball to come out and watch us play.”
