The Saskatchewan Party was in Moose Jaw Friday morning making an important promise to Saskatchewan’s graduating students.

Sask. Party Leader Scott Moe announced an increase to the Sask. Advantage scholarship, a fund that was first unveiled by the province in 2012 aimed to help Saskatchewan students stay in their home province for post-secondary education.

Moe says the scholarship will go up by 50 percent, to $750 per eligible year.

“This 50 percent increase will boost the total amount offered over the four years of attendance from $2,000 to $3,000,” Moe said. “This comes directly off of your tuition costs.”

Moe says this scholarship directly benefits low or middle income families.

“The Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship will continue to be delivered as an income-tested program,” Moe said. “Students attending our universities or technical schools are eligible to receive this scholarship, as are students in adult basic education or GED programs.”

Moe says over 113,000 students have benefitted from the Sask. Advantage Scholarship.

“It’s just one program that was created by the Saskatchewan party to support our post-secondary students and to encourage students to stay right here at home, to stay in Saskatchewan to pursue their studies.”

It’s expected that 8,000 students will benefit from the program each year.
