After accepting the resignation of Saskatoon Eastview candidate, Daryl Cooper, the SaskParty has quickly named his replacement.
Chris Guérette has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatoon and Region Home Builders’ Association since 2016 and has over 15 years of leadership experience working in the housing, not-for-profit, health and education fields.
SaskParty Leader, Scott Moe, believes that Guérette is a hard worker and says she will hit the ground running to earn the support of Saskatoon Eastview.
When asked about the vetting process of the SaskParty, Moe says it is thorough and posts by Daryl Cooper were made after that vetting process. He says the expectations were on Cooper as a candidate to conduct themselves as per the expectations the party has, and when the party learned that had not been the case, he says they took the appropriate actions which he believes any party in the province would have taken.
Moe says the posts which featured links for conspiracy theory group QAnon, are not policies or directions the Saskparty supports, and is why they accepted the resignation of Cooper and appointed Guérette.
When asked about the limited time Guérette has to prepare, she says elections are not won by an individual alone, they are won by teams. She is confident in a strong local and provincial team that she is looking forward to working with. Guérette adds elections are not won on social media, they are won on the doorstep, and she still has over 20 days, with several hours to gain the trust of constituents and that’s where she will be spending her time.
Guérette stated she doesn’t share the views of Cooper and she needs to spend a lot of time building the trust of Saskatoon Eastview.
