Unifor fined $100,000 after being found in contempt of court order

A Regina judge has found Unifor Local 594 in contempt of a court order and is ordering them to pay a one-time fine of $100,000 plus legal costs.

The judge found the union in violation of an injunction issued last month thus they were in civil contempt.

The union is saying they will continue to hold the line and that this dispute will not be settled in the courts or by police.

Federated Co-Op says the decision is re-assuring as it demonstrates that our legal system works and that the rule of law will be upheld when individuals or organizations choose to subvert it.

Wednesday is Day 47 of the lockout.   The main issue is pensions.

Despite many requests for the two sides to get back to the bargaining table from the provincial government and the City of Regina, there has been no talk of both sides sitting down to bring the dispute to an end.
