Regina sports legends donating numbers to food bank with goal of raising one million meals

A new social media campaign between the Regina Food Bank and legendary Queen City sports figures hopes to raise one million meals for local families in need this fall.

The Donate Your Number campaign captained by Roughrider Alumni & three-time Grey Cup Champion, Paul Woldu, has committed to donate the value of their jersey number. They are rallying athletes of all ages to do the same. Athletes and their families are encouraged to post pictures wearing their jersey and challenge their friends and teammates to do the same.

Along with Woldu, prominent ambassadors include Rider Alumni Neal Hughes, Chris Getzlaf, Dan Farthing and Rider Coach Dickenson, Olympic Gold Medalist Curler Ben Hebert, hockey legend Mile Sillinger & his family, MLB & Team Canada Pitcher Dustin Molleken, Men & Women Cougar Basketball legends, and the Women’s Cougar Soccer Team.

David Froh, Vice President Community said everyone can help even kids, “Every dollar donated secures three meals. We are encouraging adults to donate the value of their jersey number, but also asking children to donate a dollar for their jersey and to get their teammates do to the same”.

One number counts for three meals, the food bank expects to feed 13,000 people this month alone.

Pictures are encouraged on social media using the #DonateYourNumber.
