Last season didn’t end the way the Regina Pats hoped. The team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Saskatoon Blades. In the off season there was all kinds of activity, as superstar Connor Bedard was picked first overall in the NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Later in the summer, head coach and GM John Paddock announced his retirement.
The Regina Pats hired Allan Millar to be the Vice President of Hockey Operations, and he promoted assistant coach Brad Herauf to be the new head coach of the storied franchise.
This morning, the Regina Pats opened up their training camp. Day one features two practices for the rookies, an on ice workout for the returning players, and a rookie game in the afternoon.
The Main camp opens on Saturday, and the team continues a heavy schedule of practice leading up to the traditional “Blue and White” game on Tuesday, September 5th. After that the team embarks on its short pre-season schedule, starting with a home and home series with the Brandon Wheat Kings. The first preseason game will be at Brandt Centre Friday September 8th, with the two teams squaring off in Brandon the next night.
The Pats start the 2023-2024 season in Brandon on Friday, September 22nd, with the home opener being the next night when Regina will host the Saskatoon Blades.
