Sask exports reach new record in 2021

 

The Saskatchewan government says merchandise exports reached a record high of 37 billion dollars last year, a jump of 24.7 percent compared to 2020.

The previous record was 35.3 billion dollars set in 2014.

Trade and Export Development minister Jeremy Harrison says Saskatchewan is providing the food, fuel and fertilizer for growing world needs.

Farm and food products made up the largest share of 2021 exports, valued at 17.3 billion dollars, a jump of 6.8 percent over 2020.

Metal and non-metallic mineral products jumped 312 percent, energy products up 73 percent and forestry rose 60 percent.

The province is operating 8 international trade offices to expand export sales in China, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, U.K., United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
