Northern Cree Nation declares state of emergency

A northern Saskatchewan community has declared a state of emergency after a rash of criminal activity.

The Onion Lake Cree Nation band sent out a release saying the emergency was called after a rash of drug and gang-related activity that has directly led to increased violence.

The band office is hoping the provincial and federal governments can step up to help the community deal with the increased problems.

The release added that RCMP are doing their best, but resources are stretched too thin and the community needs government help before it gets worse.

It also detailed a few recent incidents that led to this decision including a high-speed chase through he reserve, the body of a missing man found near the community and a stolen vehicle crashing into the Onion Lake Cree Nation arena causing extensive damage.
