Docherty steps down from MLA post

A Regina member of the Legislature for the Saskatchewan Party is stepping down.

Regina Coronation Park MLA Mark Docherty today announced that he is resigning his seat in the Legislative Assembly effective this Friday. A statement was issued from the Saskatchewan Party caucus Monday afternoon, saying Docherty was stepping down to pursue other opportunities.

Docherty said: “Serving and building community are at the heart of who I am and I look forward to continuing that important work in new ways.”

Premier Scott Moe thanked Docherty for his service to his constituency and his province.

A byelection will be held within six months to elect a new MLA for Regina Coronation Park. An MLA since 2011, Docherty won the 2020 general election by a trio of NDP candidates over the years.

Former NDP cabinet minister Kim Trew had been the MLA for 25 years before Docherty’s win.
