The Regina Pats have added a veteran presence to their blueline on Wednesday as they claimed defenceman Keegan Slaney off waivers from the Calgary Hitmen.

The 20-year-old is entering his fifth and final season in the Western Hockey League after spending the past four seasons with the Hitmen and the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The 5-foot-9, 185 lb. left-shot defenceman has played in 175 career WHL games, recording 34 points (10G-24A) and a +7 plus-minus rating.

Slaney was selected by the Oil Kings in the first round (20th Overall) of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft.

In another move, the Pats have reassigned 2007-born defenceman Brayden Smith to the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA program.
