The Wascana Pool welcomed more than 100,000 visitors in its debut season.

The facility became the top destination in the city for swimmers. as the pool hosted more visitors than the city’s other four pools combined.

To celebrate the pool’s excellent rookie season and commemorate the old Wascana Pool, the City of Regina has buried a time capsule on-site at Wascana Pool.

The capsule contains memories and artifacts from the old Wascana Pool and the new Wascana Pool’s inaugural season.

Mayor Sandra Masters said she was thrilled to see many residents and visitors come out and enjoy the Wascana Pool.

“As a City, we are committed to providing exceptional recreational spaces for our community. We look forward to another successful season next year!”

Some items in the time capsule include photographs, a letter to future residents from Mayor Sandra Masters and Saskatchewan’s Government Relations Minister Don McMorris, and a lifeguard shirt.

It also contains a heartfelt letter from the family of Darryl Abstreiter, the PCL site superintendent for Wascana Pool, who tragically died from cancer before the project was complete.

A plaque donated by Remco Memorials will mark the time capsule’s location.
