Canada advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 IIHF World Juniors with a 4-3 overtime win against Slovakia. The Regina Pats captain scored a pair of goals, including the winning goal in overtime to lead the scoring charge.

Dylan Gunether and Zach Ostapchuk also scored in the Canadian victory.

It was a quick start for Bedard, as he opened the scoring at the 6:07 mark of the first period moving him past former Regina Pat, Jordan Eberle for the top spot of the all time list for goals at the World Juniors.

The goal also gave the 17 year old the number one on Canada’s all time points list ahead of Eric Lindros.

It was not an easy win for Canada, with Slovakia battling back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime.

Goaltending was stellar on both sides with Thomas Milic making 27 saves for Canada while Slovakia’s Adam Gajan had 57 saves.

Bedard also added an assist to his record breaking evening.

Canada will now move on to the semi-finals on Wednesday against the United States.

Czechia and Sweden will face off in the other semi-final.
