Wealth beyond imagination

Everybody has their own definition of wealth. Some will tell you wealth is all about the money you’ve accumulated over the years. Some argue wealth is not about money, but about the amount of family and friends you have in your life. Others might say wealth is based on the resources you have. How ever you define it, wealth is always sought after.

This week, basketball legend Michael Jordan became the first athlete to make the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest people in the US. He’s the 379th richest person in the US thanks to his incredible $3 billion fortune. Much of this money was accumulated through his advertising deals and the sale of his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets.

What’s most surprising is the amount of money these 400 people have collectively. When added up, the Forbes 400 total wealth would be over $4.5 trillion! Trillion, not billion or million, but TRILLION! To put that in perspective, Canada’s GDP in 2022 was around $2.1 trillion, according to Stastista.com.

Just imagine if the Forbes 400 decided to put that $4.5 trillion towards into food banks, shelters, libraries, athletics and more. Imagine the amount of people who could be helped by their incredible wealth and business acumen. I think the Elon Musk’s and Jeff Bezos’ of the world tend to forget they can’t take their money with them when they pass on and it reminds all of us that it’s not what we take to heaven (if you believe in that), but what we leave behind for our fellow human beings after.
