It was anything but a silent overnight throughout southern Saskatchewan.

Wind speeds gusted between 40-60 km/hr during the overnight hours creating a blowing snow advisory for areas including Regina, Estevan, Yorkton and Humboldt early Friday morning, in some areas the winds reached 70 km/hr during the overnight.

Brad Vroligk from Environment Canada says that winds will begin to ease during the morning hours but the blowing snow will continue. “The heaviest winds will begin to ease off in the morning, but blowing snow to some degree will likely persist right into the midday.”

The blowing snow around the Regina area should ease off during the early part of the afternoon according Vroligk, he also noted that areas in the southeast including Estevan can expect the blowing snow to last into the evening.

The highways around Regina, Estevan and Weyburn were reporting travel not recommended advisories early Friday morning according to the Highway Hotline, with warnings issued for Highway #1 both east and west of Regina, Highway #39 between Estevan and the Junction of Highway #6, Highway #13 between Weyburn and Carlyle, and Highway #8 south of Moosomin.
