Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms cap off weekend across southern Sask. on Sunday

Sunday afternoon and evening was full of active weather across the prairie provinces, including southern and east central Saskatchewan.

Severe thunderstorms rolled though many areas bringing wind, heavy rain and damaging hail.

While Regina was placed under a Tornado Watch for most of Sunday evening, there were multiple Tornado Warnings across south central and southeast portions of the province, including unconfirmed reports of a touchdown west of Mossbank and by Spring Valley.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Shaer, said Monday morning they are working to confirm a tornado touched down in the region.

“That was said to have happened late in the afternoon or early evening yesterday, (Monday) ” Shaer said. “There is pictures online, it just hasn’t been confirmed yet,” he added.

Shaer did confirm that large hail fell in many areas.

“We’ve got golf balls reported in Spring Valley, ping-pong ball sized hail in Ormiston, golf ball sized hail in Crane Valley, loonies in Willow Bunch, toonies in Lampman, and ping-pong ball to tennis ball sized hail four miles west and eight miles southwest of Bengough,” Shaer said.

The Weather Office says thunderstorm activity is once again possible on Monday though not to the severity seen on Sunday.
