Ryan Meili expected to step down as Sask. NDP leader

Saskatchewan NDP leader Ryan Meili is expected to announce today that he is stepping down from the post, but will is anticipated that he will remain as the Saskatoon Meewasin MLA.

Meili, who won the leadership in 2018, says he will remain in the position until a new leader has been chosen.

The 46 year old Meili was first elected as an MLA in 2017, but ran unsuccessfully for leadership of the party in 2009 and 2012.

Just this week, the NDP lost a by-election in Athabasca to the SaskParty, but Meili says that had no bearing on his decision.
