Rhizosphere Bringing A Million Dollars to Saskatoon

It has never been in New York or Los Angeles or Vancouver or Toronto, but it’s here now in Saskatoon. It’s the 2019 Rhizosphere  5 conference, to explore new ideas in sustainable agriculture and food and water security. Tourism Saskatoon is one of the organizations that helped to bring the event to the city. Spokesperson Whitney Stobee says it’s the first time this conference has been held in North America and over 400 people are attending.

She believes a conference like this fosters advancements and innovation in agricultural research, allows delegates to experience the synchrotron and cyclotron facilities first-hand, and it brings the scientific world to our doorstep.

Stobee estimates the event spend from transportation, lodging, food and beverage, retail and recreation for the event over 5 days will have an almost million dollar impact on Saskatoon. It began yesterday (Sun) and runs through Thursday.

Along with conference activities this week, the attendees will get a chance to see a bit of the city and beyond with social tours of Wanuskewin, a trip on the Prairie Lily riverboat and a tour of Black Fox Farm and Distillery among other highlights.
