The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has released a new report calling on municipal governments across the country to make it easier for business owners to succeed.

The report looked at 8 major municipalities in Western Canada.

The report found 70 percent of small business owners in the west think their municipal government does not understand the cost pressures they face.

CFIB is asking municipal governments to consider the needs of local business when determining budgets and taxation levels.

The recommendations include a halt to cost increases like property taxes, utility fees and permits, offer permanent and inter-municipal business licenses, a feedback mechanism for business concerns about red tape irritants and improved information for small business.
