SaskPower is transferring gas and electrical inspections to the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan.
SaskPower spokesperson Scott McGregor says the average customer won’t notice a difference.
“The only real difference that a customer might experience is if they’re finishing their basement or they’re building a garage and they’re doing all of the electrical or gas work themselves within the rules,” McGregor said. “Instead of coming to SaskPower to apply for a license or an inspection, they would just go to TSASK.”
McGregor says no jobs are being lost.
“Just over 90 of the inspectors that were with SaskPower who did the gas and electrical inspections, they are actually now with TSASK,” McGregor said. “Having all of the licensing and inspection activities within one organization just makes a lot more sense.”
TSASK was established in 2010 by the province as a not-for-profit, independent, regulatory organization to handle inspections for Crown Corporations and the provincial government.
