If you follow the Calgary Stampede or have been over the years, you might be aware that each year there is a Stampede Poster.
The Stampede picks an artist to give their impression of what the Stampede represents and it becomes a piece of history for this much loved Canadian event. The Stampede Collection has been on the hunt for three absent posters. And just this week, one of the missing links has been found. Today, the media was introduced to Albertan, Darlene Mowatt and the 1930 Calgary Stampede and Exhibition Poster. A piece that historians didn’t even know existed.
Ms Mowatt had received the poster from her brother a number of years ago and had it hanging in her basement. A few months ago she had heard on the radio that the Stampede was looking for posters from 1922 and 1926 plus 1930. Darlene called the Stampede office, to which an archivist came out to confirm it was legit! And that’s history in the making!
Darlene Mowatt received her one thousand dollar reward today! (That’s about enough to enjoy the Stampeded for a day!)
As you are collecting, sorting and selling stuff from the attic, basement or barn, beware! You might just be sitting on treasures that are worthy of cash and a splash of celebrity status!
