Former player and coach with the Saskatchewan Roughriders Kent Austin has a new position at Auburn University.

After spending the past season as the Tigers special assistant to the head coach/quality control, Austin will now be the team’s quarterbacks coach.

The former quarterback spent the first seven seasons (1987-93) of his playing career in Saskatchewan, helping the Roughriders win the 1989 Grey Cup Championship.

Following his time on the field, Austin began a coaching career with the Ottawa Renegades in 2003 as the team’s quarterbacks coach. After a stint as the offensive coordinator with the Toronto Argonauts (2004-06), he returned to Saskatchewan to lead the Roughriders to a Grey Cup title as Head Coach in 2007.

The 60-year-old left Saskatchewan following the Grey Cup to become the offensive coordinator with Ole Miss University.

Austin returned to the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013, as Head Coach and Vice-President of Football Operations.

The Natick, Mass. product became the quarterbacks coach and the co-offensive coordinator at Liberty University before joining Auburn.
