Sask. farmers face wide range of severe weather

There’s been a wide range of severe weather conditions for farmers in Southern Saskatchewan so far this growing season.

Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel farms near Mossbank, about 140 kilometers southwest of Regina.

She says local crops have faced drought, heavy rain, and three or four rounds of hail so far this year.

She says the hail devastated the local canola crop.

But she says it is recovering and the plants are back in bloom.

Jolly-Nagel says expectations have changed dramatically when the drought pointed to a crop failure.

Now, despite the hail, she is optimistic and hoping for an average to better than average crop.

She is a past president of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association.
