The Canadian Federation of Independent hopes the premiers follow through on a commitment to simplify the movement of goods from province-to-province.
The Premiers appear to be unanimous about making actual free trade happen within Canadian borders.
The CFIB’s Prairie and Agribusiness Vice President calls the move crucial to small business especially with recent impediments in key international markets like the United States and China. Marilyn Braun-Pollon says there is nothing the premiers can do about volatile and frequently changing international policies, but can improve the trade environment in this country.
She admits it will be a challenge considering there were close to 125 exceptions written into the Canadian Free Trade deal struck two years ago.
Braun-Pollon also hopes the reduction of red tape extends beyond the sale and movement of products.
She feels Canada-wide acceptance of provincial trades certification and common work place regulations at bodies like the Workers Compensation Board would also be a big boost for business within the country.
