A very personal man and a very kind man – that is how W. Thomas Molloy was remembered during his funeral Saturday in Saskatoon.
The province’s lieutenant-governor had a state memorial service at Merlis Belsher Place after passing away earlier this month at the age of 78 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Over 800 people attended his funeral including Premier Scott Moe, Regina Liberal MP Ralph Goodale, Assembly of First Nations Chief Perry Bellegarde and former U of S President Peter McKinnon.
One of his colleagues, former Saskatchewan Premier Roy Romanow, spoke about how he and Molloy became close friends when both were attending the University of Saskatchewan. He went on by saying no one expected Molloy to become lieutenant-governor at that time because of the fun they were having.
He was remembered by many as someone who was a very thoughtful man, but someone who also had a wild, humourous side to him.
