Farm leaders are hoping the federal government will give speedy approval to the new Nafta trade deal.

The Trudeau government is hoping to focus on the new trade pact this month in parliament.

Saskatchewan Agriculture minister David Marit wants to see quick approval of the trade deal.

He says the trade deal is extremely important to both grain and livestock producers to ensure continued access to Mexico and the U.S.

APAS president Todd Lewis says he hopes the opposition in Ottawa doesn’t needlessly delay passage of the new Nafta agreement.

Lewis also stresses the importance of continued farm trade between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

The opposition is making no guarantees of passing the trade legislation quickly.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh told reporters in Regina on Monday, he wants to evaluate the trade deal in committee to ensure the deal ensures the best interests of Canadian workers.

The new NAFTA deal has already been approved in the U.S. and Mexico.
