Hockey Canada cancels spring national championships

Hockey Canada didn’t surprise anyone on Friday when they made the announcement that it was cancelling the Esso Cup (national female midget hockey championship), Telus Cup (national men’s midget hockey championship), Centennial Cup (national Junior “A” championship) and the Allan Cup (national senior hockey championship).

Prince Albert was supposed to host the 2020 Esso Cup, but they were given the right to host the 2021 event after it was cancelled.  It is not known what happens now since the 2022 event has already been designated to Lloydminster.

The Telus Cup was to be played in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, the Centennial Cup was to go in Penticton and the Allan Cup was to go in Hamilton.

In a release, Hockey Canada says changes had to be made to its season schedule to prioritize the health and safety of all participants at our national events, impacting various host committees and communities.
