Farmers see major challenge meeting Ottawa’s goal of reducing greenhouse gases from fertilizer use

Famers have some concern about Ottawa’s ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gases from fertilizer use by 30 percent by the year 2030.

Canadian Federation of Agriculture second vice president Todd Lewis says fertilizer is important for crop production and a 30 percent reduction is a concern.

But he believes new products and good management practices can allow farmers to meet the 30 percent greenhouse gas reduction target from fertilizer use.

Ottawa has released a discussion document on the issue and is seeking comments until June 3rd.
