Pilot Butte gearing up for annual rodeo and cabaret (video)

The Town of Pilot Butte will be buzzing with activity Father’s Day weekend thanks to their annual rodeo and cabaret. A tip of the cap to all the volunteers and organizers who make the Pilot Butte Rodeo and Cabaret a reality every year. It takes a lot of work to host an event like this and to acquire enough people to help tend bar, cook food, maintain the rodeo grounds, organize the parade (which can be like herding cats sometimes), and make sure the cabaret goes off without a hitch.

The annual event runs June 14th to 16th at the Pilot Butte Rodeo Grounds, north of the town. Friday night slack gets underway at 6pm followed by Caitlyn’s Crusaders MS Buck-off, a fundraiser for the MS Society, organized by Caitlyn Stenberg. On Saturday and Sunday, the heavy horse pulls get going at 9:30am, parade at 10am (Saturday only), chariot racing at 11, rodeo at 12:30pm, with the chuckwagons racing right after the rodeo.

Besides the rodeo, the Bud Light Cabaret brings in people from all over Saskatchewan thanks to the huge Canadian talent that organizers are able to book. Past cabaret performers have included Emerson Drive, Aaron Pritchett, Gord Bamford, and Doc Walker, among others. In 2024, Aaron Goodvin will be headlining the cabaret, which gets underway on Saturday, June 15th. Goodvin has landed two number one songs on the Canadian charts and scored numerous top 10 hits including “Lonely Drum,” “You Are,” and “Boy Like Me.” Goodvin has set himself up as one of the most sought-after songwriters in country music, winning the CCMA Songwriter of the Year Award in 2018 for his song “Lonely Drum.” In addition to winning a CCMA he’s also been nominated several times in various categories. Goodvin says he will be releasing a new EP in early 2024.

Tickets for the cabaret will be available at The Tap in Regina, Cross Country Foods in Balgonie, Pilot Butte Domo, and Brown’s Ice-House Liquor Store in White City.
