Instead of always being on the go, take a moment, leave the phone somewhere that it will not interfere with your time observing nature. Within minutes you’ll block out the noise of the city around you. If you are already out in nature, as in a rural area, you’ve already heard it. Listen for the crackling of tree buds as they pop, listen closely for the sound of geese and rabbits quickly nibbling the tender grass popping through. Morning coffee is enhanced when you spend time on the patio enjoying the little flitting sparrows, robins or the squirrels busying themselves looking for morning worms, nuts and seeds. They are busy creatures in the bird bath or dusting themselves in their dusting powder or dirt!
Rabbits are, of course, changing colour. You’ll find them sleeping in little dirt divots keeping cool, trying to hide out of sight. If you are out early enough in the morning, there’s quiet gatherings of rabbits that is comical. not unlike the birds they form rows and nibble and pick their way along. Just outside my door there is a a territorial war going on between geese. It is appreciated that people not speed down side streets where geese waddle directly in the middle of the road. Their territorial ways during the breeding season are aggressive. We have our own natural watch dog, don’t cheese off the geese! The turf war is an interesting dance as geese squeeze out their fellow feather heads. It is a sad situation to see a bachelor goose looking for love on the front lawn of an apartment building. Meanwhile the matched geese and ducks, even pigeons are showing off their spring affections. I hope the lonely goose can find his heart’s desire. The lake and park are just that way sir, fly over there.
