Golden Friday for Saskatchewan at Canada Winter Games

 

Friday was Saskatchewan’s most successful day at the 2023 Canada Winter Games as they were able to claim their first gold medals at the games.

Gymnast Jordan Carroll of Saskatoon has won gold Friday morning in the pommel horse. His score of 12.500 was the best on the board during the final

This was Saskatchewan’s first medal ever in pommel horse.

On the female side, Kaylee Miller made Saskatchewan history becoming the most decorated Saskatchewan female gymnast in Canada Games history. She won a gold medal on the floor, the first Saskatchewan female athlete to do so. She also picked up a silver medal on the beam and a bronze on the uneven bars.

Luca Veeman was able to win his first gold medal of the games on Friday as he claimed victory in the males mass start. He also won a bronze medal in the 1,000 m race.

In female curling, Saskatchewan was defeated by Quebec in the bronze medal game and finished fourth.

Saskatchewan will win a medal in hockey after they defeated Quebec 4-3 in the semi-final. Cole Reschny and Joby Baumuller each had a pair of goals. Tomorrow Saskatchewan will meet Ontario in the gold medal game.

After Friday’s action, Saskatchewan has 15 medals with three gold medals, six silver medals and six bronze medals.
