Leah Mertz introduced as 2020 Saskatchewanderer

Tourism Saskatchewan has found its 10th Saskatchewanderer.

Saskatoon’s Leah Mertz was introduced as the latest Wanderer on Monday morning at Conexus Credit Union in downtown Regina.

As it has been for the last several years, Mertz will be tasked with travelling across the province to promote places using social media to connect with followers.

Mertz grew up on a turkey farm in southern Alberta, but has spent most of her life travelling across Canada. Now she calls Saskatoon home and hopes to call it her long-term home.

Before becoming the latest Wanderer, she worked as a content creator for the past six years. Mertz has experience in photography, video creations, voiceovers and music.

She admitted it’s surreal to receive this opportunity of a lifetime.

“I just want to connect with as many people as possible,” said Mertz. “There’s a very full inbox at Saskatchewanderer with people sharing their tips, ideas and hidden gems.”

2020 also marks 10 years since the Saskatchewanderer program began.

Gene Makowsky, minister responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan said the program continues to grow each year.

“I know the viewers have increased quite a lot on social media platforms, and to reach those audiences is an expensive endeavour starting from scratch,” shared Makowsky. “It’s grown organically and has built upon itself.”

Tourism Saskatchewan has also announced Conexus Credit Union as a title sponsor for the Saskatchewanderer program. Meanwhile CAA Saskatchewan returns as the official vehicle sponsor.

Follow Leah’s journey as the 2020 Saskatchewanderer on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube.
