Federal Agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau issues statement on Ukraine

Federal agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau has issued a statement as part of the G7 Agriculture ministers and the EU commissioner, in a meeting in Germany in the presence of the Ukrainian colleague.

The statement says the agriculture ministers are appalled by and condemn the large-scale aggression by Russia against Ukraine, enabled by the Belarusian government.

The G7 agriculture ministers are saddened by the devastating losses and express solidarity with Ukraine.

The statement says the G7 ministers will strive to support food production in Ukraine and stand ready to act in any crisis to ensure global food security.

The ministers statement expresses alarm at the targeting of critical agricultural infrastructure in Ukraine, including transportation and storage, which is having significant regional impact.

Given Ukraine is the fourth largest wheat supplier and produces half the world’s sunflower oil exports, the statement says this will have global impact on food insecurity.
