Pair charged after hitting officer with stolen vehicle

Regina Police had to deal with a scary situation early Saturday morning, that left one officer injured.

Shortly after midnight, police noticed a vehicle without a licence plate entering Douglas Park.

The officers pursued on foot when the vehicle accelerated towards the officers.

The suspect’s vehicle hit the police car and one of the officers. The incident left the officer’s leg pinned between the door and the frame of the vehicle. The officer only suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital for further observation.

The suspect vehicle was able to escape after colliding with a couple of parked vehicles.

The suspect vehicle was later located by the stolen auto unit, a tire deflation device was activated near the intersection of Broad Street and Dewdney Avenue.

The vehicle came to a stop shortly afterwards and after 40 minutes of negotiations a 19 year old man and 19 year old woman were arrested without incident.

It was later determined after an investigation the suspect’s vehicle was stolen from the previous night.

Micha Favel is facing multiple charges including theft of a motor vehicle and assault on a peace officer.

Eliza Kaiswatsum is facing multiple charges including theft of a motor vehicle.

Both will appear in provincial court on Monday morning.
