Provincial NDP continues opposition of Brandt/CNIB building in Wascana Park

The provincial NDP are continuing to express their opposition to the Brandt-CNIB building in Wascana Park.

The building has been the subject of public criticism, and was even highlighted by the provincial auditor in December as it did not conform to the Wascana Park Master Plan. However, the Provincial Capital Commission announced last week the project will go forward.

PCC critic Nicole Sarauer says she wonders why the province feels the need to rush this project without following the proper steps first.

“Why are they pushing this flawed project that doesn’t have the public support when there is a path to move forward with integrity for a home for CNIB?” Sarauer asked.

Sarauer said meaningful public input would require two-way dialogue, something this project hasn’t seen.

“I think the way consultation was sought on the Wascana Pool (was) an example of the ability for the public to provide some input and feedback on what they want the future of that project to look like,” Sarauer said. “We haven’t seen that with this project.”

Sarauer says this project should start from square one to ensure the public is consulted and the Wascana park master Plan is followed.
