The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities has joined forces with two provincial cattle organizatinon’s to call for support for the Saskatchewan cattle industry.
SARM president Ray Orb partners with the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Associations Association and Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association.
Orb is worried about declining numbers of cattle producers in the province.
He says the cattle industry faces several challenges that need some government support.
Those issues include veterinarian shortages, low profitability, support on livestock insurance premiums, and year over year drought.
The three groups want to see better risk management programs, more rural vet clinics, irrigation and government cost-sharing of premiums.
