Saskatchewan’s first Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is set to open in Regina on July 2nd, marking a new era in urgent care delivery for the province.

Located at 1320 Albert Street, the UCC will serve as an alternative to Emergency Departments, providing treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses, injuries, and mental health issues that require prompt attention.

Health Minister Everett Hindley expressed his enthusiasm for the facility, emphasizing its potential to improve healthcare accessibility in Regina and surrounding areas. “Our government is pleased to see this urgent care facility reach this significant milestone,” Hindley said.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) plans to operate the UCC in phases. Initially, it will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., allowing staff to acclimate to the new model of team-based care. In the fall of 2024, the UCC will extend its hours to 24/7.

Derek Miller, SHA Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the benefits of the phased approach in a media release, stating it will enable immediate patient care while preparing for around-the-clock operations. The UCC aims to provide quick, efficient care for minor medical issues and support for mental health and addictions.
