Two Sask farm organizations look to merge at annual meetings next week

Two wheat organizations in the province are talking amalgamation next week.

SaskWheat chair Brett Halstead says a resolution will come forward at the annual meeting to join forces with the Winter Cereals Development Commission.

He says the issue has been the focus of a consultation with producers during the past year.

He says an on-line joint consultation found 95 percent support for amalgamation.

He says a resolution will come forward at the annual meeting in Saskatoon next Monday, with the amalgamation to be possibly completed by next August.

SaskWheat is expected to receive about 14 million dollars this year in farm levies while the Winter Cereals receives about 100 thousand dollars a year.
