(Jamie) If You Love Trains, Come To Regina

I’ve never lived in a city that had a worse problem with trains than Regina does. It seems like at least once a month I’m stuck on some street waiting for a train to make it’s way to wherever it’s going, and when I say going, I mean usually moving at a snails pace. It’s ridiculous and it’s very frustrating.

A couple of weeks ago I was heading north on Albert St. when I got stuck in a backlog of traffic waiting for a train at around 11:30 in the morning. The front of the train had just made it’s way across Albert as I pulled up, so I settled in for a bit of a wait, and a bit of a wait it was. Nearly 10 minutes! During midday! On one of the busiest roads in the city!!

Ridiculous! This happens all over the city.

I’ve even been at a rail crossing when a slow moving train will come to a complete stop before backing up. Then it will start moving forward again. Huh? What’s that all about? Did the engineer drop his wallet somewhere along the way while his head was hanging out of the window?

I hope the person that planned all of these beautiful tracks checked into the Betty Ford Center when he was finished his work, because nobody in his right mind could have come up with a worse road plan.

I know the city is trying to come up with some kind of a plan to rectify the train problem, but knowing that the government moves at a slower rate than some of those trains rolling through the city, chances are I’ll be complaining about this problem for a long time to come.

When I was a kid I used to love trains, but then I moved to Regina.
