Minor crimes can now be reported online in Swift Current

RCMP in Swift Current have implemented online reporting for some minor crimes that take place in the area.

Some of the things that can be reported online include theft or damage to property under five thousand dollars, as well as lost or found property. Emergencies or anything that can result in identity theft should still be reported in person or by calling 9-1-1.

Corporal Rob King says the RCMP wants to make this system easy to use.

“We also don’t want to tie up emergency services such as 911, or anyone that might be dispatching, or having to attend a crime,” said King. “These are types of incidents where you can go and attend to it at a later time when there are other emergent issues.”

This pilot project is taking place across Canada, with Swift Current being the only community in Saskatchewan taking part.
