There are a whole lot of things to love about fans of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Almost all of their ideals are drawn from all across the province; hard work, loyalty, and the urge to help those in need.
Last week, while the Saskatchewan Roughriders were beating Toronto at Mosaic Stadium, Rider Fans answered the call for Purolator “Tackle Hunger”. Fans were asked to bring a non perishable food item to the game for the Food Bank, and in exchange, the donor could snap a photo alongside the Grey Cup. Cash donations were accepted as well.
“Rider Nation and the province of Saskatchewan is known for its deep sense of community and willingness to lend a hand to those around them,” said Saskatchewan Roughriders President and CEO Craig Reynolds. “We are thrilled that our fans once again showed up for those in need in such a significant way, and to be a part of this special program with Purolator and the Regina Food Bank.”
The Riders had a special social media post to promote the event.
According to Purolator fans donated 22,122 pounds of food for the Regina Food Bank. In the last three year, Rider Nation has donated almost 98,000 pounds of food to help the needy in our community.
“We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from Purolator Tackle Hunger, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their incredible fans. This partnership exemplifies the power of community coming together to tackle food insecurity. Together, we are making a meaningful impact, feeding 16,000 people every month,” said John Bailey, CEO of Regina Food Bank.
Purolator “Tackle Hunger” has been running for more than 20 years in CFL cities, brining in more than 22 million pounds of food for foodbanks across the country.
“Saskatchewan Roughriders fans always show their support and this year was no exception. Together we managed to raise 29,122 pounds of food for the Regina Food Bank,” said Lyndon Klymchuk, Unit Manager at Purolator. “It’s a pleasure to be able to support our local community through the Purolator Tackle Hunger initiative.”
