The Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Canadian Teachers Federation, and the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour are all teaming up to fight the provincial governments gender and pronoun policy.
In particular, the Sask Party Government’s use of the not withstanding clause of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
All three groups are concerned the policy will hurt young people, and could set a precedent to take away worker’s rights.
“We feel that suspending Charter rights – regardless of the sector of workers or subset of children –
needs to be considered in the court of law.” said SFL President Lori Johb. “Students and workers alike deserve to know how this law could impact them now and into the future.
All three are going to intervene in the case when it goes to court in September.
