One man charged with dangerous driving, stolen auto, after length car chase

The Regina Police Service saw a call of mischief lead to a lengthy car chase.

It was on March 8 that police were dispatched for a report of mischief, where a man attempted to light a fire.

Police would arrive and attempt to speak to the man, but he would then get into a vehicle and flee.

Police observed the vehicle driving dangerously, at high rates of speed, throughout the city. The vehicle was identified as recently stolen from Balgonie, with a recently stolen license plate not corresponding to the vehicle.

Police would successfully deploy a tire deflation device, but that didn’t stop the vehicle as it continued to drive with deflated tires both in and outside the City of Regina.

The suspect would then abandon the first stolen vehicle and then steal another vehicle that was running with doors unlocked in Emerald Park.

The suspect then drove that stolen vehicle back into Regina, where police once again successfully deployed a tire deflation, causing damage to the tires.

The vehicle would then drive south of Regina, where it finally stopped at a farm yard where police prefaced a “high-risk vehicle stop and arrested the suspect.”

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Justin McDonald of Regina, who was found to be the subject of warrants and in violation of conditions of a release order and conditions of probation.

A search of McDonald yielded a knife and identity documents not belonging to him. Police also determined that McDonald had stolen two vehicles on March 3 and 6.

McDonald is charged with:

  • 2x Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000;
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000;
  • 2x Dangerous Drive;
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle;
  • Flight from Peace Officer;
  • 2 X Identity Fraud – Possession of Identity Document;
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order; and
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order.

McDonald appeared in Provincial Court on these charges on Thursday.
