Six of the eight teams that will be in the championship pool at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts has been decided with two more to be decided Thursday morning.
Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle is hoping to be one of those two, but she will have to win a tiebreaker game first.
In a tight contest Wednesday night, Krista McCarville took one with last rock in the extra end to defeat Silvernagle 4-3 forcing her to a tiebreaker against Andrea Crawford in a game that will start at 8 AM. Silvernagle had forced the extra end by taking one in the 10th end.
The big end was the 6th when Silvernagle had McCarville on the ropes. With her last shot in the end, Silvernagle went too deep with her final shot. Facing four, McCarville had an easier shot that she capitalized on to take one and stay in the game.
Third Stefanie Lawton says it was one of those nights where they just weren’t rewarded.
“We fought a good battle out there.” Lawton said. “Krista made a good shot for the win. We just need to keep playing like that and come out strong tomorrow.”
Lawton added they may have to curl at 8 AM, but they are still curling and that is the main thing.
The winner of the Crawford-Silvernagle game will join Kerri Einarsson (Manitoba), McCarville and Team Canada’s Chelsea Carey in the championship pool off the A side. On the B side, BC’s Corryn Brown will meet Nova Scotia’s Mary Anne Arsenault in a tiebreaker. The winner joins Rachel Homan (Ontari0), Jennifer Jones (Wildcard) and Prince Edward Island’s Suzanne Birt.
