A 24-year-old man from Lebret is facing multiple assault charges after what police call “a violent domestic-related incident” on Saturday.
Police were called just after 5:30 p.m. to attend a home on the 600 block of Gladmer Park for a report of a domestic-related assault involving members of the same household. That’s where police located the male suspect, along with a woman and three children under the age of five.
“When police told the male he was under arrest and attempted to take him into custody, the male engaged in a physical altercation with the responding police officers,” explained the Regina Police Service in a statement sent out on Wednesday afternoon. “During the altercation, the male allegedly assaulted both police officers before fleeing the residence on foot.”
It was not too long before officers located him nearby where he was arrested and taken into custody. The woman, who was the victim of the incident, and the youngest of the children were taken to hospital to receive treatment.
Police say they will not be releasing the suspect’s name in order to protect the identity of the victims and occupants of the same household. His charges include:
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm;
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Choking, Suffocating or Strangling;
• Assault;
• Two counts of Assault A Peace Officer;
• Resist Arrest;
• Uttering Threats; and
• Mischief Under $5000.
He made his first court appearance on these charges on Monday morning.
