Memorial Service for Police and Peace Officers

The Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers Memorial was held today in Wascana Park in front of the Legislative Building.

The event featured the reading of the Honour Roll, naming those killed in the line of duty including that of RCMP Cst Shelby Patton on June 12, 2021. The Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutentant Governor of Saskatchewan and Mrs Mirasty were in attendance as well as other dignitaries. The wreath laying ceremony also included the Melanie and Ashley Patton.

The national day recognizing the contributions of fallen officers became official September 24, 1998. The Government of Canada proclaimed that the last Sunday of the month of September would be Police and Peace Officer’s National Memorial Day. September 27, 1998, the Solicitor General of Canada stated that, ” A formal national memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation to the dedication of police and peace officers, who make the ultimate, tragic sacrifice to keep communities safe”.

The service included the Campbell Chamber Choir, a full service of Remembrance as well as O Canada and a march past before dismissal of officers.
