Fundraiser for Prairie Harm Reduction and the Okihtcitawak Patrol Group, Supported by Kinsmen Club

A fundraising campaign is looking to raise the largest donation ever received, for Prairie Harm Reduction (PHR) and the Okihtcitawak Patrol Group (OPG).

Executive director for Prairie Harm Reduction Jason Mercredi says every dollar raised will be matched up by the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon, up to $40,000, and see the goal of $80,000 split between the organizations. Mercredi says funds received will go towards their core operations and drop-in centre.

Mercredi says the campaign could introduce PHR to a segment of the population who might not be aware of what they do and legitimizes their community based relationship approach. Mercredi adds in order to get a handle on the addictions crisis, partnerships are key to that.

He says the addictions crisis isn’t getting any better and while they are hopeful the provincial government will fund the consumption site for the fiscal year, the donation will go a long way to making sure the agency can respond to needs in the community.

The Okihtcitawak Patrol Group are a young Indigenous group that Mercredi says are doing safety patrols and needle pick up out on the streets.
